Ivory poachers foiled in Kenya

Three wildlife rangers and four poachers died after a confrontation near Kenya's Tsavo East National Park.  The poachers were believed to be heading to the park to target elephants and their ivory, despite an international ban on the ivory trade.  Authorities suspect the poachers, who were armed with AK47s, had crossed the border from Somalia.

Kenya is a leader in the fight against poaching, and elephants in the country number about 30,000.  One-third of those live in the Tsavo East park.
