IFAW and the Cape Cod Stranding Network Celebrate Merger!

September 27, 2007 - Hyannis, MA

Katie_thx Today the Cape Cod Stranding Network (CCSN) officially became a project of the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW).  IFAW and CCSN staff, volunteers and supporters came out to celebrate at Trader Ed's on Hyannis harbor and enjoyed some libation, food and music by Cape Cod favorites The Ticks.

Volunteers also were able to tour new emergency response vehicles and trailers that will allow both IFAW and CCSN teams to set up effective command posts at response sites.  Funding for the trailers was provided in large part by the charitable arms of Petsmart and Petfinder.

Katie Touhey, IFAW's new Emergency Relief Manager, Marine Mammals gave an emotional thanks to CCSN and IFAW staff, CCSN volunteers and supporters and gave specific volunteers special recognition for outstanding efforts and examples each had made over the course of the past years work.

CCSN rescued over 220 marine mammals last year and just hours before the event surveyed a possible dolphin stranding in Wellfleet harbor.

For more information on the merger, read the release here.
