IFAW S. Africa - Mdzananda Clinic - The success story of Cloe Pienaar

Mdzananda This story was submitted by Dr.Rozelle Theron, Mdzananda’s vet.

Cloe came to Mdzananda Animal Clinic early in November 2008. She was severely neglected, nursing puppies and suffered from what we think were burn wounds. She had corneal ulcers in both her eyes, and her skin was so sensitive, she did not like being touched.

The owner was unable to take care of her and we were determined to treat her and give her a second chance in life. After three weeks on antibiotics, skin ointments and a special diet (Royal Canin Skin support sponsored by Royal Canin), her hair started to re-grow and her wounds started to heal.

Cloe1 At this stage there was a loving family desperately wanting to give her a home. They were tremendously committed, giving Cloe her tablets twice a day, applying ointment 3x a day, bathing her once a week in a prescription shampoo and keeping her on a strict skin support diet. Of course, they also drowned her in love!

Cloe2The results were amazing! Three months later Cloe has a short thick coat with minimal lesions. She changed from being a thin, hairless nervous little “scare crow” to a happy, confident, silky dog. She is unrecognizable to the people that saw her three months ago!

We just wanted to share this success story and say thank you to everyone that was involved in giving Cloe a second change and changing her life for the better.
